The Legendary Flavours of the Greeks

Greek cuisine is known for its wide use of olives, herbs, vegetables, various meats (lamb, poultry, rabbit and pork), cheese, eggplant, zucchini and yogurt. Typically, Greek served dishes with wines or anise-flavored liqueurs. Island Santorini Restaurant definitely incorporated all these ingredients to give us a taste of the legendary dishes of the Greeks.

Greek Salad
Made with sliced potatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese and Kalamata olives. It is seasoned with salt & oregano and dressed with olive oil.

To celebrate the homecoming of my parents, I am treating them a night to dine in any restaurant of their choice. Suprisingly, for our dinner my father suggested to try the Greek Cuisine at Island Santorini Restaurant. I honestly didn't thought that at the age of 60, my parents are still into trying of different cuisines. Well, I know now where I got my being adventurous when it comes to food. :-)

Spanakopita
A famous Greek dish which happens to be a personal favorite of my father. It's just a fried spinach with onion, shallots and garlic.
Beef Stifado with beans
A traditional Greek recipe also known as Greek beef stew. Main ingredients of this dish are stewing beef, beans, shallots, olive oil and red wine.
Crispy fried calamari
Kalamarakia Tiganita in Greek. A typical calamares but less crunchy and it is served with herbs.
Greek-style grilled pork chops with fried potatoes

My parents enjoyed the food satisfactorily but for me it was a so-so experience. The Greek salad is tasteful but if I have to compare it with other Mediterranean cuisine restaurants in Manila, I don't find their food extra special. I suggest they should work more on food presentation and expanding the choices of their menu. However, the fact that I dream of visiting Greece, the restaurant provides a relaxing ambiance with wall paintings of beautiful sights and landscapes of the Island of Santorini. Looking at the views, made me more excited to travel in Greece!
